Supported Independent Living

What is SIL?

Supported independent living is for participants with higher support needs, who need some level of help at home 24/7. SIL is to help participants with day-to-day tasks so they can live independently and learn new skills. SIL funding is typically for people who need 24/7 support while living in a shared home, and it covers the cost of the support staff in the house.

Who is eligible for SIL?

Participants who would like SIL included in their plan, need to prove that it is a reasonable and necessary support for them. Most participants who get SIL funding live with housemates who also have SIL funding.

To be eligible participants must provide the following:
Evidence that they are not able to live independently without 24/7 supports. This evidence can be prepared by their treating health professionals like GP, occupational therapist, or other Allied Health professional through a Functional Assessment Report (FAR).
An Identifying Housing Solution’s report by a support coordinator. Participants who have SIL in their NDIS plan, also have support coordination included.
Participants who have SIL in their NDIS plan, also have support coordination included.
For more info on providing evidence of disability visit the NDIS website.
